Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx Once Wrote A Song Inspired by El Paso
Motley Crue is without a doubt one of the biggest bands to come out of the 80s; they've gone on countless tours around the US & the world. They've also come to El Paso, Texas a few times in the past; a total of 9 times ranging from 1983. The last time they were here was back in 2005 for the Carnival of Madness tour. And it turns out Nikki Sixx actually wrote a song that was very much inspired by his time in El Paso.
We know that Nikki Sixx did grow up as a kid in El Paso; in fact in 2019, he was even looking for an old childhood friend. But what you probably didn't know is that just HOURS before their 2005 El Paso concert, it was revealed in an online diary that Nikki Sixx wrote some lyrics in his hotel room, all about his time when he grew up in El Paso as a kid. Thankfully the story was archived by Blabbermouth so we can actually look at this song that Nikki wrote.
So without further ado...I present to you..."Balcony in El Paso".
"Cigarette butts grace my balconyAnd the remains of a dead pigeon seems somewhat poeticThe life form that scurries around belowIs a mixture of Tex-Mex and trailer park trashI know you — 'cause I used to live here, tooGuess that makes you just like meThat make you wonder about yourself?
I don't know whyI'm here but I can't stayThe more things changeThe more they stay the strange
Sittin' here on this planeWatchin' the empty faces crawl past meYou know they all seem to have ingestedThat same melancholy pillInstead of warm, fuzzy and safeThey seem cold and judgmentalLittle conversations come in and out of audio focusIt's all in slow motion but somehow moving at theSpeed of fearI feel such the animal, I'm always the animalMy body's the cage — I'm locked in this cageIt's my home, it's worn, it's torn, it's been abusedAnd I like it
Here I sit in another hotel and it smells like someone elseI lay in bed and I can taste the smellThe smell of smoke, the drink, the stinkAnd the stain on the floorI wonder was he with his wife?Or another man's whoreScratches upon the glassTell of the drugs and the radioIs still on to the music that made them danceI bet it was sweetBut me?F*** man I gotta get some sleep"
Catchy lyrics... (might even become a hit. What do you think??) The song even has its own "official" lyrics page too.
Sadly no. The lyrics only existed online in Nikki's diary (which also sadly no longer exists). At the moment the song only exists in the form of words; no known recordings of the song has even been made (publicly at least).
I hope one day Nikki sees these lyrics & will one day make this song & a reality! I'd certainly listen to it...
